Bristol's Ceramic Heritage
Bristol started making Delft ware tiles and pots in the 17th century. Production started in Brislington in 1652 and then spread out to other parts of Bristol. Pieces depicting pictures of landscapes were very popular until 1777 when the more durable Staffordshire creamware took over in popularity. Fine porcelain was made for a while in Bristol in the 18th century. Everyday stoneware pots and clay pipe were made from the 17th century until the early 20th century..
What we did
Year 7 pupils from Hartcliffe Secondary School learned to turn pots on a potter's wheel and made their own mosaics.
