WALKING
Bristol's Walking Heritage
There are many interesting local heritage sites and landscapes within easy reach of south Bristol. These include: the Iron Age
hill fort of Maes Knoll, the deserted farmstead of Pickwick Farm, Dundry Village with its quarrying and lime burning history, the Tufa springs, ancient tracks, stunning views over Bristol and a rich wildlife.
What We Did
Pupils from Hartcliffe Secondary School walked up the Dundry Slopes to the Malaga Spring and on to Pickwick, a farmstead occupied for hundreds of years until mid 1800s. The outline of the buildings and the track ways are still visible.
Pupils from Withywood Secondary School walked around a short circular route on Dundry Hill easily accessible from the Withywood estate. They found out about the different plants and wildlife that live there and the Tufa springs. They also designed and carved way markers for the route (see Woodcrafts).
